SNL Cold Open: The Perfect Choice For Trump DEA Chief

It’s not so easy for Saturday Night Lives writers to satirize Donald Trump and the ultra-right government he is creating. The reality is more bizarre than any parody. This week’s SNL cold open began with CNN anchor Jake Tapper (Beck Bennett) greeting Kellyanne Conway (Kate McKinnon) to discuss the president-elect’s latest cabinet choices: for EPA director, an oil industry stooge who denies climate change, and for labor secretary, a fast-food executive.

“They aren’t bad,” she insists. “They’re alt-good!”

But then onto the set strides the “high school science teacher from New Mexico,” promoted by adviser Steve Bannon, who will serve as the new chief of the Drug Enforcement Administration: Walter White, meth-brewing anti-hero of Breaking Bad, played by the great Bryan Cranston himself. He introduces himself with a pithy slogan: “Donald Trump and I know it’s time to make America cook again!”
